Alphabet Acquires Intersect Power for $4.5 Billion to Secure Clean Energy for Data Centers
2025-12-23 00:03

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has agreed to acquire clean energy developer Intersect Power LLC for $4.5 billion in cash, plus the assumption of existing debt. The acquisition aims to secure more power for Google’s data centers, which are expanding to support AI operations. This deal is one of Alphabet's largest and is driven by the need to address the surge in electricity demand due to AI growth, new factory construction, and economic electrification, which the aging U.S. grid struggles to meet. Google previously held a minority stake in Intersect and collaborated on building large power plants near its data centers. CEO Sundar Pichai stated that Intersect will help expand capacity, provide flexibility in building new power facilities, and drive innovation in energy solutions.
