Armenian Prime Minister Assures Iran of Control Over Planned Corridor
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan assured Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that the planned corridor connecting Azerbaijan with its exclave will be under Armenian control. This assurance comes after Iran threatened to block the project, which is part of a U.S.-brokered peace agreement. The corridor, named the 'Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity' (TRIPP), is intended to connect Iran to the Black Sea coast via Armenia. Pashinyan stated that Armenia, not a third country, will provide security for this new land corridor. The U.S. has secured development rights for the route, but Iran opposes it, fearing it will isolate the country and bring hostile foreign forces near its borders. Iran has long been against the planned transit route, advocating for regional governance in the Caucasus and rejecting any changes to international borders there.
