Block Inc. Agrees to $12.5 Million Settlement in Class Action Lawsuit
Block Inc., the company behind Cash App, has agreed to a $12.5 million settlement in a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit alleged that Block Inc. facilitated the sending of unsolicited commercial text messages to Washington residents through its 'Invite a Friend' referral program. The settlement aims to avoid the costs and uncertainties of continued litigation, despite Block Inc. denying any wrongdoing. Class members must meet specific criteria to be eligible for the settlement. Individuals who received a settlement notice by email or mail may have gotten such a referral text, but those without a notice are not considered to have received one. Class members who submit a valid claim form by October 27, 2025, may receive an estimated payment between $88 and $147, depending on the number of valid claims and deductions for administrative costs, attorneys' fees, and service awards. Payments will be distributed equally among all eligible claimants. Any uncashed or undeliverable payments will be handled by the settlement administrator, who may redistribute unclaimed funds to eligible claimants or donate them to the Legal Foundation of Washington.
