Families of Camp Mystic Victims File Lawsuits Alleging Negligence
2025-11-11 20:04

Families of victims who died in a flooding incident at Camp Mystic in Texas have filed lawsuits alleging negligence and wrongful death. The disaster, which occurred in July, resulted in the deaths of 27 girls and counselors. The families claim that the camp was negligent and prioritized profit over safety. The lawsuits allege that Camp Mystic, located in a high-risk flood zone along the Guadalupe River known as Flash Flood Alley, failed to implement legally required evacuation plans, ignored weather warnings, and enforced unsafe policies. The lawsuit states that camp staff prioritized saving equipment over the safety of campers and counselors during the flood, with groundskeepers spending over an hour evacuating camp equipment while some campers and counselors were ordered to remain in their cabins, even as others were moved to higher ground. Jeff Ray, a lawyer for Camp Mystic, stated to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth that the flood's severity was unprecedented and that the lawsuits contain 'misinformation' about the camp’s actions.
