Google Unveils Gemini 3, Its Most Advanced AI Model to Date

Google has launched its latest AI model, Gemini 3, which will be immediately integrated into several of its profitable products, including the search engine. This upgrade comes 11 months after the release of the second-generation model, aiming to maintain Google's leading position in the AI competition. According to executives, Gemini 3 ranks at the top in multiple industry performance charts. CEO Sundar Pichai referred to it as 'the most intelligent model.'

In 2025, Google has prominently promoted its new AI Mode on its homepage Doodle and Chrome browser landing pages, featuring an animated image linked directly to AI Mode, the company's latest AI-powered search tool. This promotion, which includes a share button on the Doodle, aims to expose a broader user base to Google's advanced AI capabilities amid growing competition from AI startups like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Perplexity AI. Google CEO Sundar Pichai showcased these advancements during the Google I/O developers conference on May 20, 2025, in Mountain View, California.

AI Mode provides a chatbot-like experience integrated with Google's search engine, allowing users to pose complex, multilayered queries and receive comprehensive, AI-generated responses that include detailed reasoning, essential facts, and relevant links. Powered by Google's flagship AI model Gemini, AI Mode accepts questions via text, voice, or image inputs, enhancing the ease of finding answers that might otherwise require multiple searches. Launched initially in the United States in March 2025, the feature was tested by placing it beneath the Google search bar, replacing the traditional "I'm Feeling Lucky" widget.

Following successful use and positive feedback, Google expanded AI Mode to India starting in mid-2025 as an experimental feature in English. It caters to demanding queries that can be 23 times longer on average than traditional searches and supports exploratory questions and complex tasks like product comparisons, trip planning, or creative idea generation. The system employs a "query fanout" technique that breaks user questions into subtopics and simultaneously searches multiple web sources, including fresh real-time information via the Knowledge Graph. This fusion of advanced AI and comprehensive search capabilities aims to deliver hyperrelevant, high-quality content seamlessly integrated into everyday Google Search.

A Google spokesperson clarified that the AI Mode promotion on the homepage is a fun marketing approach distinct from traditional Doodles celebrating culture or history. This strategic move highlights Google's commitment to AI innovation in response to intensifying AI-related competition and user demand for more powerful search experiences.
