ICE Officer Fatally Shoots Undocumented Immigrant in Chicago Suburb
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fatally shot Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, an undocumented immigrant, in Franklin Park, Illinois, after he resisted arrest and dragged the officer during a traffic stop. The incident occurred near 25th and Grand avenues. Villegas-Gonzalez, who had a history of reckless driving, was driving a silver car that collided with a truck. The ICE officer sustained severe injuries but is in stable condition. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin of Homeland Security stated that the officer followed proper training and used appropriate force to protect public and law enforcement. The area was closed for some time, with traffic resuming around 4 p.m. This event follows an increase in ICE operations in the Chicago area, with about 300 ICE agents stationed just north of the city.
