Intel stock climbs 7% on report Trump administration is considering stake in chipmaker
On August 11, 2025, Intel shares rose by 7% following a report that the Trump administration is in talks with Intel to have the U.S. government take a stake in the company. The proposed government stake would reportedly help fund factories Intel is building in Ohio. Earlier in the week, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan met with President Donald Trump at the White House. An Intel spokesperson stated, "We look forward to continuing our work with the Trump Administration to advance these shared priorities, but we are not going to comment on rumors or speculation." Intel is currently the only U.S. company with the capability to manufacture the fastest chips domestically, while competitors like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and Samsung also have U.S. factories. Tan became CEO earlier in 2025 after Intel struggled to gain market share in artificial intelligence chips and invested heavily in its foundry business.
