LAX Metro Transit Center Opens, Bringing Rail Service Closer to Airport
The LAXMetro Transit Center in Los Angeles officially opened, with officials arriving by train for the grand opening. This new station, located at Aviation Boulevard and 96th Street, will connect to the K Line and C Line, and starting next year, to Los Angeles, ahead of the Automated People Mover's launch in 2026. The transit center, budgeted at $900 million, features a 16-bay bus plaza with electric bus infrastructure, a bicycle hub, and short-term parking. Currently, free shuttle buses run every 10 minutes to transport travelers along the 2.5-mile route between the transit center and the airport. The opening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by city and county leaders, including a mariachi band and color guard. The event highlighted the significant investment and coordination across multiple levels of government. The new transit lines are crucial for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, aiming to make it a 'no car Games' by connecting central LA, beach cities, and Interstate 105.
