Poland Invokes NATO Article 4 After Russian Drone Incursions
2025-09-11 02:03

Poland has invoked Article 4 of the NATO treaty following 19 reported breaches of its airspace by Russian drones. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk held a news conference to address the threat, and Poland called for a consultation, which took place at a North Atlantic Council meeting in Brussels. The incidents are seen as part of a broader strategy to test Western responses. President Karol Nawrocki stated that this was an attempt by Russia to test Poland's and NATO's capabilities and response mechanisms. On Thursday, Poland's Armed Forces announced air restrictions, and traffic disruptions in the eastern part of the country are expected through December 9. The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting to address the recent drone incursions. Russia's defense ministry denied targeting Polish territory, stating that its drones have a range of no more than 700 kilometers.
