On Monday, August 11, 2025, a shooting occurred in the parking lot of a Target store in Austin, Texas, resulting in three fatalities, including a child. According to Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis, police received a call at 2:15 p.m. local time and arrived within four minutes to find three people shot in the parking lot.
Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services Chief Robert Luckritz reported that two victims died at the scene, while the third was pronounced dead at the hospital. Captain Shannon Koesterer of the Austin-Travis County EMS confirmed that the deceased victims included one child and two adults. Additionally, a fourth individual was treated for injuries not related to gunfire.
Police stated that the suspect, who has a history of mental health issues and prior criminal activity, fled the scene by stealing a car, crashing it, and then hijacking a Volkswagen from a dealership. The suspect was apprehended in south Austin after being tased by officers.
