Trump Exempts Certain Metals from Global Tariffs, Imposes Tariff on Silicone Products
2025-09-06 15:54

U.S. President Trump announced exemptions from global country-specific tariffs for metal products such as graphite, tungsten, uranium, and gold bars. However, tariffs will be imposed on silicone products. These adjustments will take effect on Monday. The order may also expedite the implementation of customized trade agreements between the U.S. and other countries, making it easier for Washington to remove tariffs on aircraft parts, generic drugs, and certain goods that cannot be produced domestically, such as specialty spices, coffee, and specific metals. A few weeks ago, a ruling by U.S. Customs and Border Protection to impose an import tax on gold bars caused market confusion. This measure establishes a plan to exempt gold bars from import tariffs and grants the U.S. Trade Representative and the Department of Commerce the authority to implement framework agreements with countries such as the European Union, Japan, and South Korea.
