US Continues Trade Talks Despite Court Ruling Against Trump-Era Tariffs
2025-09-01 05:36

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated on Sunday that the US is continuing trade agreement negotiations with its partners, even after the US Court of Appeals ruled that most tariffs imposed by President Trump were illegal. Greer said in an interview, "Our trade partners are still working closely with us on negotiations. Regardless of what ruling the court may have made in the interim, everyone is moving forward with their respective agreement processes." Greer did not disclose the countries involved in ongoing negotiations but mentioned he spoke with a trade minister on Saturday morning. On Friday, the US Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., ruled by a vote of 7 to 4 that, although Congress has granted the president significant powers to respond to national emergencies, it has not "expressly given the authority to impose tariffs, duties, or similar charges, nor the authority to levy taxes."
