White House Announces Construction of $200 Million State Ballroom Beginning in September 2025
2025-08-06 01:03

On August 5, 2025, the White House officially announced that construction of a new ballroom—named the White House State Ballroom—will commence in September 2025. This addition is intended to address the longstanding need for a large event space on the White House complex capable of hosting major functions. Currently, the largest event space in the White House, the East Room, can seat only 200 people, which necessitates the use of temporary tents for larger events.

The new State Ballroom will provide approximately 90,000 square feet of ornately designed space and will offer a seated capacity of 650 people. The project will be led by McCrery Architects of Washington, D.C., with Jim McCrery serving as lead architect. The construction team will be headed by Clark Construction and the engineering work by AECOM. According to the announcement, President Donald J. Trump and other donors have committed the funds necessary to build the structure, which is expected to cost approximately $200 million. The United States Secret Service will oversee security enhancements and required modifications.

Recent weeks leading up to the announcement saw President Trump holding meetings with members of the White House Staff, the National Park Service, the White House Military Office, and the United States Secret Service to discuss design and planning. In a statement, Jim McCrery said, “I am honored that President Trump has entrusted me to help bring this beautiful and necessary renovation to The People’s House, while preserving the elegance of its classical design and historical importance.”

The ballroom will be built on the site of the current East Wing, which has undergone multiple reconstructions. The new structure will be separated from the main building but will maintain architectural consistency with the rest of the White House. The completion date is scheduled “long before the end of President Trump’s term.”

White House Announces Construction of New State Ballroom Under President Trump
2025-08-01 08:06

On Thursday, the White House announced plans to begin construction of a new State Ballroom on the White House complex. The project has been initiated under President Donald J. Trump, who has advocated for a larger event space to accommodate major functions and honor world leaders. The current East Room can seat 200 people, but the new ballroom will provide a seated capacity of 650, significantly increasing the White House’s hosting capabilities.

The ballroom will add approximately 90,000 total square feet of ornately designed space. President Trump selected McCrery Architects, led by CEO Jim McCrery, as the project’s lead architectural firm. McCrery stated, “I am honored that President Trump has entrusted me to help bring this beautiful and necessary renovation to The Peoples House, while preserving the elegance of its classical design and historical importance.” Clark Construction will lead construction, and AECOM will head the engineering team. The United States Secret Service will provide security enhancements and modifications.

Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2025, with completion expected before the end of President Trump’s term. President Trump and other private donors have pledged to fund the approximately $200 million project. The ballroom’s location will be on the site of the current East Wing, maintaining architectural continuity with the main White House building while being substantially separated from it.

The announcement also references consultations in recent weeks between President Trump, the White House staff, the National Park Service, the White House Military Office, and the Secret Service to finalize design features and planning. The new State Ballroom marks the first major expansion to the White House’s event-hosting capacity since the Truman administration.
