Canada and Ukraine Sign Security Agreements; Canada Considers Ground Troops
On the 24th local time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Kyiv. During the meeting, Zelensky stated that important documents were signed and clear consensus was reached on several issues. The two countries signed a security agreement implementation roadmap and a drone production cooperation agreement. Both sides held in-depth exchanges on diplomatic cooperation, partnership under the "Voluntary Alliance" framework, sanctions against Russia, energy sector cooperation, Canada's participation in Ukraine's post-war reconstruction and veteran rehabilitation programs, and defense collaboration. Zelensky noted that Canada's newly added $500 million in aid is crucial, with the funding specifically designated for drone production in Ukraine, which was a main focus of the meeting. At a press conference, Mark Carney stated that he supports Canadian participation in the "Voluntary Alliance" and does not rule out the possibility of sending ground troops to Ukraine. It is currently unclear whether such troops would be sent for training purposes or as part of a peacekeeping force.
