The Trump administration has proposed a requirement for travelers from visa waiver countries and regions to provide their social media records from the past five years. This proposal affects electronic system for travel authorization (ESTA) applicants from most European countries, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, and other areas. Since January 2019, the U.S. has intensified its efforts against illegal immigration and visa scrutiny, revoking 85,000 visas, which is more than double the number revoked in the previous year.
