U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard stated in a post on X on Monday that the UK government will no longer force Apple Inc. to provide a so-called "backdoor" for US user data. In January, the UK had issued an order requiring iPhone manufacturer Apple to remove advanced encryption from user data stored in its cloud services, allowing the UK government to access global user data, including possible communication data such as voice memos and phone data backups.
