U.S. and Israel Launch Military Strike on Iran, Killing Supreme Leader and Senior Officials
On February 28, the U.S. and Israel launched a large-scale military strike on Iran, resulting in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and several senior Iranian officials. Israeli Defense Minister Katz stated that key figures, including National Security Council Secretary Larijani, IRGC Quds Force commander Soleimani, and Intelligence Minister Hatib, were killed in separate strikes on February 16–17. Katz also announced that Israeli forces had authorization to assassinate any Iranian official without prior approval. Russian presidential spokesperson Peskov condemned the attacks, warning they would have 'extremely serious consequences' and noting such actions only strengthen Iranian public support for their leadership, as the ultimate aim appears to be regime change.
